SOCIOLOGICAL IMAGINATION GROUP BREAKING NEWS

To illustrate our efforts, on August 11th, 8 AM to 5 PM, we will be discussing the new Section of the American Sociological Association we are developing at the ASA’s annual meetings in Montreal, August.9-13, 2024.

There will also be the 10th annual conference of the Sociological Imagination Group (SIG), having done this over a 9-year period. We will be meeting on August 11th in the Galerie D’Art Room of the Intercontinental Hotel next to the ASA meetings.

Sociologists and others can write to me at [email protected] to submit papers to be presented at our August 11th meeting, whether or not they actually intend to be in Montreal.

The SIG’s publishing arm, Sociologicalimaginationpublishing.com, will be developing a volume that includes those papers emerging from our review process. We plan to publish a wide range of books moving toward a powerful interdisciplinary science of human behavior, opening up to the humanities and technologies no less than the social sciences.

In addition, I will be presenting a workshop, with SIG’s Creating Life Before Death: Before Disaster Strikes the Ship of State, 2nd edition, as our text. It will take place Monday mornings, over a 14-week period starting January 6th, 2025 It will be aired  on YouTube, and available by first going to sociologicalimaginationpublishing.com. Comments from individuals anywhere in the world can be sent to me at [email protected], and I will respond to some of them the following Monday.

Paradigmatic Sociology

Our name is adopted from the title of the C. Wright Mills’ book rated by the International Sociological Association as the second most influential book for sociologists published during the entire 20th century, The Sociological Imagination. Our mission builds on Mills’ intersectional and interdisciplinary orientation, his efforts at continuing personal development, and his work toward solving world problems.

First, we point toward books yielding the development of a science of human behavior broad enough to include the focus of the social sciences and relevant knowledge from other academic disciplines. This approach necessarily requires attention to the fundamental or paradigmatic assumptions guiding present-day societies, such as hierarchy, narrow specialization and personal conformity. And it equally points to alternative assumptions, such as equality, broad understanding, and individual evolution.

Open School

This section stands as an open gateway, inviting individuals from across the globe to explore our seminars and study materials. Our primary objective is to empower individuals, unlocking their inherent potentials and cultivating a collective vision aimed at preserving the perpetual enhancement of our society. Rooted in a departure from the constraining Bureaucratic Way of Life, we advocate for an Evolutionary Way of Life, encouraging for a liberation from the confines of narrow specialization, conformity, and rigid hierarchy. Through the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of alternative perspectives, we aspire to catalyze a transformative paradigm shift, fostering a dynamic environment that encourages intellectual autonomy and innovative thinking. In doing so, we pave the way for a society characterized by continuous improvement and a departure from the limitations that have traditionally impeded progress.
